I received a free copy from the author in exchange for an honest review. This is a very exciting and sexy book by Nikki Steele, a charming author. Kate meets Xander in a unusual way. Baxter her puppy runs in front of Xanders car and is hit. They rush him to a vet. Xander stays with Kate til they know he is going to be okay. Then he disappears before she can tell him thank you or get his phone number. But the next day he shows up and the hot romance begins. Can't wait to read the next book.
Absolutely delightful, enchanting, romantic, sexy, heartwarming, and a dream come true. That is what Nikki Steele's books are. Any time I need a pick-me-up from a stressful day, all I have to do is read one of her books. Xander and Kate are just starting to learn about each other and Kate just can't believe someone like Xander would be interested in her. He's more than just interested as it turns out. I want to start off by saying my dog Dexter looks just like the photo of Baxter on the front, so I was drawn into the cover of this book right away. I am also a dog and cat mom so this was endearing to me as a reader and animal parent.
Kate is "mom" to Baxter (an little sure of himself and typical puppy ADD personality) and a nurse who is running late for work due to not being able to say and mean no to Baxter who is testing the "no" boundaries. Then a sudden dart to something across the road and Kate running after him (making it a game of chase now) and an oncoming car unable to stop in time, poor Baxter is hit.
Xander is in the vehicle that hit poor Baxter, he stops and scoops up the pup, scoops up Baxter's mom Kate and hurriedly makes off to the emergency vet's office, while along the way having the police (who suddenly is now involved due to the speeding to get poor Baxter to help) follow and then asked to back down, and getting Baxter and his in shock mom to the vet.
Xander sits with Kate during this whole time, and the vet has good news, then Xander is gone....or is he?? He resurfaces the next day and things start to change for Kate (and for the better) One thing leads to another and things move quickly. The book ends without an actual ending per say but it is to lead into the next book. After how this first book "ends" I can not wait to see where book two and three and four lead to.
This is a very enjoyable book, easy to relate to, easy to get hooked into. I highly recommend this book, and (even though I have not read the whole series yet,) I will venture to say the whole series as well.

If I were to describe this in one word that word would be CUTE. This story is cute in so many different ways, not the least of which being the adorable puppy who is a character all on his own. The human characters weren’t half bad either. Xander was priceless, walking a fine line between authoritative and attentive, secretive and mysterious. Kate’s frank openness drew me in in the complete opposite manner. I enjoy how they got to know each other over such a cute puppy. It is a solid first encounter that lets you see (and feel) the explosive relationship building between these two.
This story was a fantastic introduction to Steele’s captivating characters and a wonderful tale in and of itself, but I will warn you, it’ll leave you dying for the next story.

This is a great book even if you are not a dog lover. Well written and Baxter is too cute too! Buy the book and get the next one because I want to see what happens too.
